Frequently Asked Questions

Where can we get married?
The West Coast offers an abundance of spectacular locations for a wedding. Our marriage commissioners are game for just about anything… beaches, rainforest, secluded coves at low tide, an island, a rocky bluff, a mountainside, beside a waterfall or a lighthouse — the options are almost unlimited thanks to a diverse geographical region.

Can we include our dog in the ceremony?
Of course! I’ve seen lots of dogs as ring bearers – just make sure the rings are securely fastened so they don’t fall into the sand half way down the aisle! A leash is recommended.

Can we write our own vows?
The marriage commissioners have several ceremonies to choose from, and they’re always happy to incorporate wording that is special for you. They can ask you to repeat after them, or you can read your words to each other. Memorizing is not recommended – you don’t want to stress yourself out on your wedding day!

Can we include a special ritual?
There are lots of beautiful ways to celebrate your love for each other. Lighting a unity candle, pouring sand from two vases into one, tying a Celtic knot, performing a smudge with sage, jumping over a line drawn in the sand together, to name just a few.

Where do we stay?
The Chambers of Commerce in Tofino and Ucluelet would be happy to provide you with information on accommodation in the area. Some of the resorts that cater to wedding parties are Black Rock Resort, The Wickaninnish Inn, Long Beach Lodge Resort, Pacific Sands Resort, Tin Wis Resort, Middle Beach Lodge, and Crystal Cove Resort. Accommodation on the West Coast ranges from camping to bed & breakfasts, lodges to chateau-status resorts; it’s your choice.

What if it rains?
It does rain occasionally on the “Wet Coast”; that’s why we have a rainforest! Generally, cloudy days are the best for pictures anyway, because there are no harsh shadows and nobody squints. But if you’re planning an outdoor wedding, it doesn’t hurt to have “Plan B” in case it rains. The larger resorts have indoor areas that make nice backgrounds; and the rainforest does provide a canopy of leaves that reduces the effect of a heavy rain.

When can we expect to receive our photos?
Unless you’re heading home at the crack of dawn the next day, I can usually have your CDs ready for you to pick up on your way out of town. If it’s not possible to connect on your way out, I ship them by X-Press Post so you’ll receive them within a few days.

What else can we and our guests do during our stay?
If you enjoy kayaking, scuba-diving, whale-watching, nature walks, bear-watching, float-plane charters, great food, spectacular sunsets, beach-combing, mountain-biking or fishing, the West Coast is the place to be. If you want to tie your wedding in with one of our many West Coast festivals or events, refer to the Chambers of Commerce web pages for a complete listing. Both towns of Tofino and Ucluelet are very visitor-oriented, and you can be sure of a friendly, courteous, West Coast welcome.

What if I hate having my picture taken?
Don’t worry, be happy! I’ve spent years taking pictures of people and I always make it fun for everyone involved, whether it’s a big group or just two people. Even the most confirmed photophobes have remarked that the photo session was not only painless but enjoyable!
